The morning of the wedding has been hectic. We had a flower crisis but resolved it in the nick of time. Now we (the groom, best man, groomsman (me) and the beautiful Anna-Lisa) have to make it to the church in time. We set off through the glorious coutryside with little time to spare for sightseeing. My brother (the groom) is driving and we are in a hurry.

Reminiscent of many a film scene we are pulled over by the Gardai (Irish for police) for speeding. We immediately explain that we are on the way to a wedding and are profoundly sorry for our misdemeaner. The officer, peering into the car and spying all the tartan, asks, "are you playing at the wedding?"

After explaining that in fact we are not a Scottish band and that the driver is in fact the groom he explains why we were stopped. The speed limit is 60 and he clocked us coming over the hill at 70, which he says is fine, only at that point when most drivers notice the officer in the middle of the road (a strange Irish practice where officers stand in the fast lane of on coming traffic!) he clocked us increasing to 80, so he had to stop us. This is at 1.15pm and after telling the officer that the wedding was to take place at 1.30pm (2pm really but needs must) he reluctantly let us go.

The funny thing is that that throughout this episode Anna-Lisa has been trying to capture the moment from the backseat. The officer, increasing in anger the second time he had to tell her snapped, "No photos please! It's not allowed!!" So we got him through the rear window.
